Biography

This profile is part of the Gilbert Name Study.

Sarah Gilbert is shown in the Gilbert of Fradley Pedigree in the Staffordshire Visitation[1] as the daughter of Humphrey Gilbert of Frodley and his wife Elizabeth, and aged 10 in 1665.

The Alrewas Church Register records: "Sarah Gilbert, daughter of Humphrey and Eliz borne Decemb 16th 1655 & bapt the 23 of y same". [2]

Sarah Gilbert of Fradley married William Gorringe of Kingston at Alrewas on 23 Dec 1672.[3] Apparently (note to Visitation Pedigree) a memorial inscription at Alrewas Church records that he died in 1701 aged 51 and she died in 1707 aged 52.

It would seem from the following document description, that Sarah Goering married William Debanck after the death of her first husband:

1703: Curzon v Daniell.

Plaintiffs: Joseph Curzon gent, of Orgreave, Staffordshire, Elizabeth Curzon (alias Elizabeth Goreing) his wife, William Debanck gent, of Barton under-Needwood, Staffordshire, Sarah Debanck (alias Sarah Goreing) his wife, John Cuthbert gent, of Fradley, Staffordshire, Mary Cuthbert (alias Mary Goreing) his wife, Henry Goreing, Thomas Goreing infant, Walter Goreing infant and Gilbert Goreing infant by Richard Alport their next friend.

Defendants: Henry Daniell gent, next friend, Sarah Daniell his wife, Rowland Manlove gent and William Goreing infant.

Subject: Settlement of the will of William Goreing gent, of Fradley, Staffordshire, deceased, the payment of legacies and portions to the plaintiffs and the inheritance of freehold, copyhold and entailed land: property in Alrewas, Staffordshire and King's Bromley, Staffordshire.

Research Notes

The webpage about Fradley Hall on the Parks and Gardens website states: "Fradley Hall was an early post-medieval timber-framed house. It was in the ownership of the Gilbert family until 1672. It then passed by marriage to William Goring of Kingstone, Uttoxeter, and to his son Henry in 1710."
