The Syracuse Journal, NY, 12 Jul 1905: Four Grandsons As Pallbearers. Death of an Estimable Woman, Who is Survived by Many Relatives, 21 Grandchildren Among Them.

Lebanon, July 12 -- Thursday, July 6, occurred the death of Mrs. Mary Benedict, widow of the late Oliver Benedict. She was 79 years of age, and lived with her daughter, Mrs. Loren Bonney. Mrs. Benedict was the daughter of Vine Gilbert, and was born in the town of Lebanon. She was married to Oliver Benedict in 1846. They lived in the towns of Lebanon, Georgetown and Sherburne. To them were born five children, all living -- Mrs. Loren Bonney of Lebanon, Stephen Benedict of Rochester, Mrs. Frank Benedict of Lebanon, Mrs. Addison Head of Rochester and Vine Gilbert Benedict of Rochester. There are also living 21 grandchildren. Mrs. Benedict was a half-sister of the late Edward Gilbert of Earlville. She was of a quiet, retiring disposition and her life interest seemed centered in her home and family. The funeral services were held at the home of Loren Bonney, on Saturday, July 8, the Rev. Isaac Fleming officiating. Four of her grandsons acted as bearers. Burial was had in the cemetery in this village."
