Biography

Johan Conrad Gilbert was born on 29 April 1734 in Hoffenheim, Baden, Germany.[1] He was the son of Hans Georg Gilberth and Anna Elisabetha.[2]

He was a Pennsylvania Dutch schoolteacher and Fraktur artist, and is attributed with the drawing of the first Easter Bunny in America. [3]

Johan was a Private aboard the "Eagle" and "Vulture" under Captain Jacob Hense. (PA)[4]

He passed away on 26 Jan 1812 Brunswick, Schuylkill, Pennsylvania, United States.[5]
