Robert is assumed to be the Robert Gilbert baptised at Cranbrook in Kent on 20 May 1827 with his parents named as Robert (a labourer) and Charlotte Gilbert of Cranbrook, with a note in the Church Baptism Register margin next to his entry which appears to read 3yr and (hard to decipher) 1 or 9m. His sister Charlotte was baptised on the same day.[1]
Robert Gilbert, a bachelor labourer of full age, married Silvester Ann Hickmott, a spinster and minor, at Cranbrook St Dunstan on 7 Dec 1846 by Banns when both of Cranbrook and with the fathers named as Robert Gilbert and George Hickmott both labourers. [2]
