Floyd Jasper Gilbert enlisted in the United States Army on 22 July 1917 in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. He served in the following companies during his time in the service, Company G 5th GA INf (Co G 122Inf) 22 July 1917 to 10 July 1918, then Company C 163 Inf to 13 July 1918. His last unit was Company B 102nd Inf to his death date on 22 July 1918. He had attained a rank of Private. He served during the Champagne-Marne (15–18 July 1918) and Aisne-Marne Champagne (18 July – 6 August 1918). On 18 July 1918 the 1st and 2d Divisions and a French Moroccan division launched the main blow near Soissons. By 22 July, 1918 over 6,500 prisoners were captured, they had advanced 6 miles but at a cost of over 10,000 American casualties. [4]
