Biography

Jane (Gilbert) Hockridge was born in Devon, England.

Jane Gilbert was born about 1782 and baptised on 11th August 1782 at Pancrasweek in Devon. Her parents were John Gilbert and Elizabeth Allen.^[1][2]

Jane Gilbert married William Hockridge on 4th July 1799 at Pancrasweek in Devon.^[3]They were married after Banns when both of the Parish with one of the 2 witnesses being Nathaniel Gilbert.^[4]

Jane and William Hockridge had eight children.

The family appeared in the 1841 UK Census living in Kilkhampton, in the district of Stratton.^[5] Fanny was one of Elizabeth's illegitimate children.

Jane's husband, William died in 1848.^[6]

Jane Hockridge was still in Kilkhampton in 1851, with her unmarried daughter, Elizabeth, now known as Betsey, and two of her illegitimate children.^[7]

Jane Hockridge died in 1860 and was buried on 24th August 1860 at Kilkhampton, Cornwall, England.^[8]She was aged 77 and resident at Kilkhampton.^[9]
