Robert is shown in the Gilbert of Yolgrave Pedigree for the 1569 and 1611 Visitations of the County of Derbyshire as the son of Robert Gilbert and Joan the daughter of John Statham of Horsely and married to Elizabeth the daughter of Henry Columbell of Darley with Children Lucy, Cecily, Barbara, Humfrey, Roland and John.[1]

22 Oct. 1499: Demise: George, Earl of Shrewsbury, Thomas Talbot, Richard Knyveton and Thomas Jakes to Thomas Barley, Robert Gilbert, junr. of Yolgrave, Roger Temple of Barton undere Nedewode, co. Staffs. and Robert, son of Thomas Fox.[2]

Robert may have had an additional daughter, Elizabeth, as an Elizabeth Gilbert, daughter of Robert Gilbert of Youlgreave is shown in the Derbyshire visitation pedigrees as married to Thomas Wendesley of Wendesley.[3]

The 12th Edw. IV. (1472-1473) Robert Gilbert, son of Nicholas Gilbert of Yolgrave, gives to Henry Foljambe, lord of Walton, Eklmond Vernon, Esq. and John Foljambe of Walton, lands in Baukewell and Burton juxta Baukewell.[4]

5 Feb 1507: Conveyance in trust:[5]

William Blackwall, clerk, John Hunt, Robert Gilbert, Thomas Bagshawe and John Gelle, gentlemen, feoffees of Richard Blakwall, late of Blackwall, gentleman, deceased (in accordance with his will), to John Sheldon of Tadyngton and Roger Wylkeson of Prestclif. An annual rent of five shillings out of a messuage, etc. in Taddington, to the church at Taddington, for religious uses. [Note: Taddington is about 9 miles from Youlgreave]
