Robert is shown in the Gilbert of Yolgrave Pedigree for the 1569 and 1611 Visitations of the County of Derbyshire as the son of Robert Kniveton alias Gilbert and Margaret daughter of Sir John Rossington of Rossington and married to Alice the daughter of William or Nicholas Cooper with son Robert Gilbert.[1]

Grant from John Hyklyng of Lynbe, esquire, and Joan, his wife, to Richard Wayne of Herthill of his lands, etc., in the lordship of Birchover called Hill Place. Witn. 1436: a Nicholas Gilbert is noted to receive rents from a grange called "Evenbrook" (Ivonbrook near Wirksworth, ca 20km from Youlgreave)
Lease from Thomas Fuliambe, esq., of Walton, to Richard Vernon of Haddon, knt., of the grange called " Evenbroke Grange," with a water-mill, two " shepecotes," and all lands, etc., appertaining, as held by the said Thomas by lease from the Abbot of Buildwas, to hold the same for three years, paying the due rents, etc., to the Abbot of Buildwas, to Nicholas Gilbert, and to the King.
