Biography
Joan Gilbert married Giles Penn at St Redcliffe St Mary, Bristol, England on 5 Nov 1600.[1]
Joan Gilbert was the mother of Admiral William Penn who was the father of the proprietor of Pennsylvania, William Penn. Admiral William was supposedly the last child born to Joan and he was born on 23 April 1621, making Joan's death some time after this date. William's memorial inscription (see his profile) states that his mother was from the Gilberts of Somerset, originally of Yorkshire.[2]
She may be the Joan Gilbert daughter of Giles Gilbert of Bridgwater - more research required.
Research Notes
Giles mother's name was Margaret; his wife's name as Margaret is an error from a 1871 pedigree.
