Biography

Mrs. Ole Hardy Laid to Rest Last Saturday. Passed Away Suddenly Tuesday Morning, February 4th at Montevideo Hospital Mrs. Ole Hardy, born Inger Augusta Gilbertson, was born February 23, 1873 in Houston County, Minnesota, of parents, Gulbrandtson and Berit Gilbertson. She came to Yellow Medicine County in July 1876 with her parents. They settled on the present Gilbertson farm northeast of Hanley Falls, on the river. She was confirmed the 9th of October, 1887, by Rev. Knute Thorstenson in Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church in Hanley Falls. On March 12, 1896, she was united in marriage to Ole J. Hardy. To this union three children were born. Mrs. Hardy has lived on the Ole Hardy farm north of Hanley Falls since her marriage. On January 31, she was taken to the Montevideo hospital, after intermittent illness during the past few years. Early Tuesday morning, February 4, 1941, she died suddenly, after doctoring for bronchial trouble. She reached the age of 67 years, 11 months and 12 days. Surviving are her husband, two daughters, Mabel, now Mrs. Edgar Stevens, of this community; Amy, now Mrs. Earl Peterson of Minneapolis; one son, Fred, and one brother, Gilbert Gilbertson, both of this community; and three grandchildren. Blessed be her memory. Mrs. Hardy was a resident of this county for over 64 years. She was a valued member of the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Congregation of Hanley Falls and of the Haley Falls Ladies Aid. Services were held from the Ole Hardy home on Saturday, February 8th. Mrs. Lanier Everson sang a favorite of the departed: Den Store Hvide Flok.' Funeral services were held in the Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. where the choir sang an anthem: Asleep in Jesus.' Alta and Lela Stevens sang "Sometime We'll Understand' and Mrs. Hardine Halvorson sang the solo, "One Sweetly Solemn Thought.". Pall bearers were her nephews, Harry and Arthur Gilbertson, Arne Hardy, Jens Hardy, of Sacred Heart, Arthur Hardy of Marshall, and Jens Hardy of Minneapolis. Interment services were conducted at the East cemetery. In Memoriams to the amount of $124.75 was given by friends and relatives for church institutions.
