In the 1871 census Wm (age 12), Errand Boy, was the son of Wm Gilchrist in Main St Old Bank Place, Bonhill, Dumbartonshire.^[3]

In the 1881 census William (age 22), Tinsmith & Gasfitter, was the son of William Gilchrist at 98 Main St, Bonhill, Dumbartonshire.^[4]
