Biography

Hugh was born about 1790. He passed away before 1857.

He is listed as a Farmer (deceased) on his daughter Barbara's marriage certificate in 1857. He is listed as Colin and a Slater (Journeyman) on daughter Barbara's death certificate. The informant was Barbara's husband, who may not have known his father in law who was deceased by the time of his marriage. It's possible Colin Gilchrist, a Slater is another relative.

I expect Hugh Gilchrist would have relatives named Archibald as it was a family name for descendants and isn't found on the McIntyre ancestors.

Hugh is most likely from Islay given his daughter reports Bowmore as her birthplace. Colin and Archibald were also popular names there.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Hugh by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Hugh:
