Alfred Jospeh Gilder was born in Stratford Victoria in 1869. He is the son of Robert Gilder and Rosenia Haynes. ^[1]

Severe Injury 1898

Mr Alfred Gilder met with a bad accident at his home, " Maristow," near Stradford, on Tuesday morning. He had run a horse into the crush and was walking up in front of him to put a halter on, when the brute reared up, knocked him down, and whilst Mr Gilder was on the ground pawed viciously at him. He then jumped over him and got away. Mr Gilder was fearfully cut about the face and body and at once realised that he had lost the use of his right arm, as he feared, from a break, but as turned out on examination by Dr Gibbs, from something worse than a' break, for the muscle and flesh of the arm had been torn off the bone from below the elbow, towards the shoulder. Mr Gilder says it was quite his own fault that he was hurt, but he is (says the "Times") none the less to be sympathised with in his ill-lu:k at having been so severely injured.^[3]

Mr Alfred Gilder had a Licence to export horses to India.

Alfred Gilder moved to NSW in 1910

Mr. Alfred Gilder, of Stratford, who has taken up land in New South Wales, has been entertained by a large number of friends. Mr. Gilder was for some time a member of the Avon Shire Council. He was presented with several souvenirs.^[4]
