William Gilderson was born in about 1807 in Slaidburn, Yorkshire, England.
William married Margaret Morgan. No record of the marriage has yet been found, but the birth of their son James in 1844 was registered as that of a child born in wedlock, and some of their children's baptism records name the mother as Margaret, others as Margaret Morgan. It's usual for Catholic baptism records to give the mother's maiden name.

Their daughter Alice was born on 6 Jun 1836, and christened on 19 Jun 1836 at St Anthony's Church in Liverpool (Catholic).[1]
Their son William was christened on 16 Sep 1838 in Sowerby Bridge, Yorkshire.[2]
By June 6th 1841, they were living in Yew Tree Place, Eccleston, Lancashire. William was a journeyman stone mason.
Their daughter Margaret was born on 14 Nov 1841, and christened on 9 Jan 1842 at St Patrick's Church in Liverpool (Catholic).[3]
Their son James was born on 17 Jan 1844, and christened on 11 Feb 1844 at St Patrick's in Liverpool (Catholic).[4]
Margaret died in about 1849, aged 35; her death was registered in the first quarter of 1849, in West Derby district.
By March 30th 1851, William was living in Toxteth Park, Liverpool. He was still a stone mason. Three of his children were in the household - Alice (13), William (11) and Margaret (8). All were in school.
William died in 1852; his age was recorded in the death registration as 50, but in the burial record as 46. He was buried on 8 Dec 1852 in the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel graveyard in Upper Stanhope Street, Liverpool. His occupation was recorded as mason, and his address as 10 Ct Combermere St.
