"The Genealogy of the Descendants of John Clough of Salisbury, Massachusetts"pub. 1952 by The John Clough Genealogical Society, Inc. "16-JONATHAN (John, John) Born april 11 1688 at Salisbury, Mass. Perhaps this grandson of John Clough lived a more exciting career than his seven brothers. Indians were increasingly hostile in 1710, and Jonathan began his military service when with his brothers he became a member of Capt. Eaton's Company and marched to Exeter to repel these dangerous foes. The previous year, 1709, he married Hannah Gile on December 31. She was the daughter of Ephraim and Martha (Bradley) Gile of Haverhill, Mass. Their first home was in Salisbury and both became members of the first church in 1715. Ephraim Gile and Jonathan were interested in a new township called Cheshire, now Chester, N.H. In March 1720, surveyors laid out the lots and Ephraim and Jonathan became Proprietors of the town. Ephraim built a log house on lot 61and cleared a piece of land. He helped to cut the first pathway from Haverhill to Chester and also the Haverhill Proprietors made another road from Kingston that same year. Jonathan owned lots 55, 74, and 77, but he did not move to Chest er, beca use abetter opportunity presented in Connecticut. Ephraim Gile, Jr., brother ofHannah Gile Clough, and his wife, Judith who was also his cousin, were moving to Thompson, Connecticut where land was more level and easier to clear than in New Hampshire. Jonathan and Hannah and their five children joined the Giles in this migration in 1722. Jonathan purchased 100 acres from Henry and Ebenezer Green and was eighth onthe list of Proprietors of this new township, formerly a part of Killingly in the northeast corner of the Province of Connecticut. This was in reality a family enterprise, for Henry Green had married Hannah Clough's sister." (Judith Gile - #156)
Note: Judith Guile/Gile was the daughter of James Guile/Gile and Sarah was the daughter of James' brother, Ephraim. James and Ephraim were the sons of Samuel Guile/Gile and Judith Davis. Judith and Sarah were first cousins who married twin brothers Harry and Ebenezer Green, the sons of Hannah Flagg and Henry Green. Henry and Judith Gile were married in Haverhill, Massachusetts 26 Oct 1721. The following year Ebenezer Green married Sarah Gile 29 Nov 1722, also in Haverhill.

Gild-9 and Gile-1136 appear to represent the same person because: Gild-9 like other profiles of Carl Miller mostly have just "Family records" as the source.

Gile-1136 is well sourced and has much info in the bio.

Gile-810 and Gild-9 appear to represent the same person because: Same person.

Her birth record calls her Gild, but the marriage record calls her Gile.

Judith, the daughter of James Gild and Ruth (Parker) Gild, was born in 1697 (not 1700) and died in infancy. She is Gild-6.

The Judith Gile/Guile who was born in 1700 in Haverhill and married Henry Green was the daughter of Ephraim and Martha (Bradley) Guile. I am going to replace the parents on this profile and propose a different merge than before.

Gile-100 and Guile-258 appear to represent the same person because: Same birth and death info (different death place is likely related to Killingly being split into multiple towns at some point). Names are variants of the same name.
