When Col. William Giles was born in 1727 in Henrico County, Virginia, his father, John, was 39 and his mother, Mary, was 33. 
He married Mary Mattock Ellis on June 28, 1746, in Amelia County, Virginia. He later married Ann Branch Giles in 1761 and they had two children. They had a son in 1762 William Branch Giles and a daughter Mary Giles in 1770.
Col. William died in 1793 in Amelia County, Virginia, at the age of 66, and was buried there.
