Isaac was born June 12, 1860, in Virginia, and died on September 28, 1942, in Amarillo, Texas.[1] His parents were Jesse F. Giles and Sarah (Sproles) Giles.[2] Isaac married Mary Margaret Statzer on 14 Aug 1884.[3] Isaac and his brother John both served as Methodist ministers in Virginia in the late 1800s, Isaac in Coeburn and Clinchport; John in Washington and Russell, VA.[4][5] Sometime between 1900 and 1910, the family moved to Los Tanos, New Mexico, where their names appear in the 1910 and 1920 censuses.[6][7] Between 1920 and 1930 Isaac moved to Amarillo, Texas. His grandchildren (his daughter's children) were living with him there in 1930.[8] This was due to the death of his daughter, Martha Myrtle Mutter Martha Myrtle (Giles) Mutter (1898-1922) which took place on 27 May 1922. When Isaac lived in Amarillo he and his sons helped build the San Jacinto Methodist Church.[9]He is buried with his wife, Mary Margaret Giles, in Llano Cemetery, Amarillo, Randall Co. TX.[10][11]
