John was born about 1820. In 1851 he was the original tenant, with a wife and five children, of 51 Westbridge Cottages, Tavistock, Devon, a group of model cottages built for the Duke of Bedford in 1850.[1]

He remained at Westbridge until at least 1871. In 1881 he was in Ford Street. He died in 1884.
