Robert Giles was born about 1799, in St Mary, Reading, Berkshire, the son of John Giles, a hairdresser, and Sarah Collier. He was baptised in Kings Road Baptist Church in Reading on 16 Mar 1799.

In 1841, Robert and his family were living in Hosier Passage, in Reading. Robert 's occupation was given as Baker. 3 children were still living at home.

In 1851 the family were living in 18, Spring Gardens, Reading. Again, he was still a baker. Living with him, his wife & 2 children, was his father John Giles, who was aged 86 - a retired hairdresser. There was also a lodger, a George Williams, who was presumably helping to boost the family's income.

On 7 Dec 1852, at 14 Spring Gardens, Robert died of "Pleuritic Effusion Some Months (Certified)". His age was given as 54. Death Certificate
