Vinton documents that “Eleazar Giles lived in Salem, the part which is now South Danvers, all his days. He was a ‘husbandman,’ or ‘yeoman;’ a man of respectable standing, as appears from his alliance with the family of Lieut. Gov. Bishop; and possessed a competent, though not large, estate. His name often occurs in conveyances of land, as grantor or grantee.”[11]

Eleazer Giles served on nine juries in which the accused faced charges of witchcraft in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692-3. Seven of the defendants (Rebekah Jacobs, Job Tookey, Sarah Hawkes, Mercy Wardwell, Hannah Post, Sarah Bridges, and Elizabeth Johnson Sr.) were found not guilty. The other two, Elizabeth Johnson Jr. and Mary Post were found guilty of witchcraft and sentenced to death, but they were pardoned by Gov. William Phips and released.[12]

Elizabeth (Bishop) Giles was a widow when she died in 1733[3]. These sources provide no further death information for Eleazar
