Biography

Math was born about 1812. Math Gilgenbach ... He passed away in 1889. [1]

Mathias Gilgenbach arrived in the US on 8 Aug 1862 in New York City, New York, on the Austrian ship Cwilta, though I think the spelling is incorrect due to handwriting. He was 50 years old and accompanied by his four adult surviving children: Johan Nicolaus, Johan , Margaretha, and Susannah. His wife, Anna Mand, died earlier in 1862 in Germany.

It appears Math might have spent some time in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin but he died in 1889 in St Bernard, Platte, Nebraska, USA, where his daughter Margaretha lived. He is on the 1885 Nebraska State Census. His daughter Susannah was married in Fond du Lac in 1866.

There was another Gilgenbach family on the same passenger list, a Peter, his wife Anna, and four children. I believe this family settled in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. They has a son named Mathias.
