Biography

1875 - Born in Raleigh, Kent, Ontario, Canada. [1]

Ada lived on a farm with her parents and siblings. The farm was located on the Middle Road, just west of South Buxton, Kent, Ontario. Ada went to school in Buxton and every day after school, she would go over to the home of Reverend William King and Mrs King where she would thread needles for Mrs King who was blind. Mrs. King would use those filled needles for her next day's quilting activity after which Ada would return to fill the needles again. Ada became a prolific quilter.

Ada married her back door neighbour James Wellwood, They each lived with their families on 100 - 200 acre farms, so it must have been quite a hike through the fields for courting!

1900 - Married James Wellwood in Merlin, Ontario, Canada. Ontario Marriage Records show her name as Mary Ada rather than Ada Mary. [2]

1945 - Age 70, Died of pneumonia in Merlin, Kent, Ontario, Canada. [3]
