Biography

Birth/Death Guesses

Erasmus Gill was born about 1725.[1] It is unlikely he lived more than 100 years, so he died before 1825.

  • Cassandra and Philip's brother George were executors of Philip's will... Cassandra Briscoe in January 1750
  • a filing on May 11, 1752 showed Cassandra was now wife of Erasmus Gill

Sources

  1. guess based on other guesses: that Cassandra Chunn was 21 when she married Philip Briscoe in 1748 and that Erasmus was about her same age.

  • Liz Shifflett, family knowledge
    • No solid support or proof that Samuel's father was named Erasmus; however, with new evidence that Erasmus was married to Cassandra Chunn by May 1752, and Samuel born August 1752 with daughter named Cassandra, circumstantial evidence indicates that Samuel's parents were Erasmus and Cassandra (Briscoe nee Chunn) Gill.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Erasmus by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Erasmus:

I was informed by private message that Gill-2983 is a son of this Erasmus, but no proof was offered. If anyone can provide sources, please do!

Thanks, Liz

P.S. Proof that Samuel is his son would also be welcome!
