Biography

Arthur was born in 1885. [1] He was the son of Matthew Gill and Emily Gill. He married Elizabeth Robertson in 1907. [2] Arthur passed away in 1938. [3] Arthur was buried in Ulmarra General Cemetery, Ulmarra, Clarence Valley Council, New South Wales with a death date of 24 April 1938. [4]

MR. A. J. GILL, OF ULMARRA.

The death occurred at the Grafton District Hospital yesterday after an illness extending over about a month of Mr Arthur James Gill, of Ulmarra, at the age of 53 years. He was a native of Ulmarra and lived in the district all of his life, following the occupation of a farmer and giving special attention to horse-breaking. For many years he took an active interest in the social life of the community and was proud of the fact that his services were in such demand for supplying accordion music at the dances through out the district. The deceased is survived by his widow, formerly Miss Elizabeth Robertson, of Ulmarra, two sons and one daughter. The sons are Messrs. Stewart and Ronald Gill, of Ulmarra and the daughter is Mrs. M. Dyke, of Sydney. The funeral will leave the Presbyterian Church, Ulmarra, to-day after service commencing at 2.45 p.m. for the Ulmarra cemetery.[5]

Mr. Arthur James Gill, of Ulmarra, aged 53 years, died at the Grafton District Hospital after an illness extending about a month. He was a native of Ulmarra, and lived in the district all his life, and was a farmer. For many years he took an active interest in the social life of the community, and was proud of the fact that his services were in demand for supplying accordeon music at the dances throughout the district. The deceased is survived by his widow, two sons and one daughter. The sons are Messrs. Stewart, of Murwillumbah School, and Ronald, of Newcastle. The daughter is Mrs. M. Dyke, of Sydney. Deceased's father, Matthew Gill, died at Coraki about 16 years ago, and his mother is still living with her son, John, in Woodbum. Brothers of deceased are John (Woodburn) and Ernest (Lismore) ; sisters are Mrs. H. Smith (Ulmarra) and Mrs. J Green (Broadwater).[6]
