Biography

The West family emigrated to the Colony of New South Wales aboard the Grecian in steerage with 10 children. Last born "On high seas" . They departed from London on the 23rd. December, 1831, and arrived at Sydney on the 16th. April, 1832. The Wests first lived in Philip Street, but later moved to Kent Street for the rest of his life.^[1]

SHIPPING INTELLIGENCE. ARRIVALS. The brig Grecian, 212 tonnes, Captain Smith, with a cargo of merchandize. Passengers, Captain William Geary, Mr. Wooller, Mr. and Mrs. Palmer, and 4 children, Mr. Jackson, Mr. and Mrs. (William) West, and 10 children, Miss Eliza Gill, Mr. Dring, Mr. David Barnes, Mr. Richard West, and 2 children.

William, Mary Ann and daughter Philadelphia charged with theft by Henry Cheviot butcher, in November 1832. Trial by jury in January 1833, found not guilty.^[2]
