Biography

Dame Cordelia Harris, also known as Lady Harris.

Cordelia Gill was a daughter of John Gill / Gyll of Hertfordshire, and his wife Joan.[1][2]

Marriage and Children

In the Harris No 3 Pedigree in the Visitation of Essex in 1634[3] she was recorded as Cordelia, daughter of John Gill of Buntingford, Hertfordshire. She had married Sir Thomas Harris of Maldon, knight, son of Vincent Harris of Maldon, gent. The Visitation recorded their children as
  1. Thomas Harris (eldest son),
  2. Vincent Harris (second son),
  3. Jane Harris (married Captain Henry Wroth of Hertfordshire),
  4. Ursula Harris and
  5. Dorathey Harris.
She was also recorded in the addition to the Harris Pedigree of the 1558 Visitation.[4]
In 1622 she was the Executrix of the will of her husband Sir Thomas Herris.[5]
Her husband, Sir Thomas Harris, died in 1622 and she then married Robert Bacon.[6][7]
Marriage Licence: Robert Bacon esq., of St Peter-the Poor, London, bachelor, 60, and Dame Cordelia Harris, 50, widow of Sir Thomas, knight, late of Maldon, co. Essex – at St Botolph, Bishopsgate, London. 13 Sep 1622.[8] The marriage took place on 19 Sep 1622 at St Peter le Poer, City of London.[9]
Robert Bacon was buried on 01 Sep 1633 at St Nicholas Acons, City of London.[10]

Harris-18142 and Gill-2147 appear to represent the same person because: I created the last name at birth for Lady Harris as her name was written as such on a Bacon family pedigree. Thank you Steve Hunt for advising that her name was Cordelia Gill and that they are duplicate profiles.
