Biography

From her Obituary Mrs. James M. French Mrs. Maria Gill French, a resident of the Osborn Memorial Home in Rye died January 11 in ninety-third yea. She was the widow of the late James Morgan French, banker and broker. Mrs. French was born in Brooklyn but had lived in Larchmont N.Y. prior to coming to the Home in 1940. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Charles R. Gill who practiced medicine at West Park on the Hudson, a grant of land said to have been to the family by King George 3rd. Her mother, Dolores Ponce de Leon, was of Spanish nobility. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Marta F. Starbuck, Middletown, N.Y. and two sons, John Audubon French of Florida, N.Y. and A. Gill French of Central Bridge N.Y. and several grandchildren.
