He was the son of Thomas Gill and Susan Mauney Gill. He married Katherine Cooksey 5 JAN 1832 in Rankin County, Mississippi, daughter of William John Cooksey and Zilpha "Zilpher". She was born 7 JUN 1816 in Georgia, and died 13 SEP 1863 in Calvert, Grant County, Arkansas. She was buried in North Marlow Cemetery, Grant county, Arkansas.
