I did a history degree at Edinburgh University, then a Masters at Durham and finally a PhD in 17th Century History at the Universities of St Andrews and Edinburgh. I did research work at the Centre for Urban History and had started a degree in Biological Sciences with the Open University. I married Peter Cormack in 1997 and our son Patrick was born in 2008.
