I was born in Limavady in 1972 and lived there until I left to go to University in 1990. I studied Chemical & Process Engineering at Queen's University of Belfast. After graduation I moved to Edinburgh and completed my Msc in Environmental Pollution Control Management at Heriot Watt. I met my husband Doug whilst living in Edinburgh and we got married in 1997. We have 2 children, Connor was born in 2002 and Charlotte (normally called Charlie) was born in 2005. We have finally settled in Livingston after moving round various Scottish locations.
I worked most of my career to date in the whisky industry for the Glenmorangie Company. I did a number of jobs with them including process engineering, distillery management and project management. I completed my MPhil in the Membrane Filtration of Whisky while I was working for Glenmorangie. I always said engineering wasn't my grown up job and so last year decided to change career and have just completed my initial teacher training year in physics and science secondary school teaching.
