Born in Londonderry in February 1947 in, according to my mother, one of the worst winters of that century. Read history, English and philosophy at Trinity College, Dublin graduating in 1970. Moved to London in September of that year with £20.00 in my pocket.
Joined the Inner London Probation Service, working in South London. Married Lynn in 1974 and moved to Cheltenham. Whilst working in the courts, I became interested in pursuing a career in the law which led to studying and obtaining an external law degree with London University. Qualified as a solicitor in 1983. Joined a seven partner practice until 1994. Worked freelance as a corporate and commercial lawyer in Gloucestershire up to 1999 when I set up my own law firm in Cheltenham.
Lynn is my office manager, though she also very efficiently runs from our offices a residential property business managing some 68 flats which we own.
In addition to the law, I divide my time between my two other businesses – producing tyres for off-road vehicles (known as the segmented tyre) and the manufacture of ejector seat handles for military aircraft.
I am the proud father of three daughters and a little grandaughter called Evie May Russell born in September 2009.
