Biography

James Gillanders was born on October 20, 1842 in Ballinagall (Crosses), Co Monaghan, Ireland, son of James Gillanders, a farmer from Ballymacforban (~1800–1863) and Jane Ross (~1803–1873).

James (24) married Ann Jane Moore (26) (born about 1840 in County Monaghan, Ireland; daughter of William Moore a farmer from Rooshy, Killevan and Jane (Unknown) Moore) on July 19, 1867 in Killeevan, County Monaghan, Ireland. [1] They had twin daughters Jane & Mary Ann in 1868.(Confirmed) and three more children. Their children were:


James (30) married Martha Jane Rowland (18) (born about 1854 in Lisgorran, Monaghan, Ireland; daughter of James Rowland and Jane (Leary) Rowland) on March 4, 1873 in Derryvalley Meeting House. [2]. Their children were:

Martha also passed away ,aged 23 following two strokes, probably from pre-eclampsia.[3][4]

James (35) married Lizzie Jane Gillanders (24) (born about 1853 in Ballinagall, County Monaghan; daughter of James Joseph Gillanders and Jane (Campbell) Gillanders) on August 23, 1878 in First Monaghan Presbyterian Church, Monaghan.He then [5] Their children were:

In 1886 three of his sons ,Robert aged 15,John Alexander aged 13 & Matthew Thomas aged 6 months all died from diphtheria within a six week period. All three deaths recorded on the same image[6]

He died in 1899 aged 54.His son Ross,present at his death, registered his death.[7].

His wife Lizzie & son Joseph were the primary beneficiaries in his will [8]
