My grandfather, Alexander Moore Gillanders, moved to Canada from Ireland as a young man and married my grandmother Gwendolyn Vaughn Kinsey. They lived in Vancouver in the early years having 7 children; David, Neil (my father), Ross, Don, Grant, Joan, John. In the early 40's they moved up to Prince Rupert where they lived for a short time before buying land in Terrace BC. My grandfather, (Alex) had purchased land with no house, but a little chicken coop which was whitewashed and where they lived until they built their house. My grandfather and his sons proceded to build a house (that in later years became a rest home) being very resourceful at that time.
