Mathilda Simon, 93, died Sunday morning at Calumet Homestead in New Holstein where she had resided for six years. She was born April 9, 1877 at Mt. Calvary, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Gilles and attended New Haven, Iowa schools. She married Peter Bergs, June 9, 1903. He died in 1927 and she married Stephen Simon, June 1, 1935 at Mt. Calvary. He died in 1955. She lived with her son-in-law, Roy Schmitz and his family in New Holstein for 13 years before moving to Calumet Homestead. Mrs. Simon was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, New Holstein, and it's Christian Mothers Society.
She is survived by two sons, Florian C Bergs of Rose Mount, Ill., and Alois Bergs of Chicago; one stepson, Arnold Simon of Calvary Station; two daughters, Mrs. Esther Klein of Ankara Turkey, and Mrs. Joseph (Dorothy) Frischmann of Milwaukee; four stepdaughters, Mrs. Irene Lisowe of Brothertown, Mrs. Joseph (Esther) Pitzen of Mt. Calvary, Mrs. Eugene (Nicella) Kaiser of Mt. Calvary and Mrs. Florence Simon of Fond du Lac; a sister, Mrs. Fred Hemann of Stacyville, Iowa; 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. --Sheboygan Press Monday 12-14-1970
