William Gillespie was a Virginia colonist.

William Thomas Gillespie was born in 1728 in Augusta, Virginia.

He married Margaret Glen in 1741.

They had one child, Nancy Margery, during their marriage.

He died in 1800 in Georges Creek, South Carolina, at the age of 72.

Robin, you have assumed that this belongs to a one off profile on Ancestry. What about all the other profiles example. https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/70608850/person/30218930393/facts The majority of the profiles listed for William with this DOB and DOD more closely match that of Gillespie-399.

While you are making the assumption that all men named William Gillespie are the same man, I am trying to separate out what might be many different men with the same name.

There are many William Gillespies as I have tried to point out to other users of WikiTree. The Ancestry profile that you have identified as belonging to this person is unsourced. This would leave me to believe it not to be accurate, there are no sources. Would it not be better to identify it with the majority of the profiles that have sources? Error on the side of many rather then one. I think that if it is left like this we are just recreating unsourced garbage from somewhere. There is a lot of bad family trees out there and that is why sources are important so that others are not lead down a path of misinformation. If later sources are found for a William Gillespie that married Margaret Glen that just so happened to be born and died on the same dates and places as Gillespie-399 then he can be recreated at that time. Otherwise this profile will just set there as an unconnected and unsourced profile.
