Ferne was born on 16 October 1914 in Warwick, Queensland.[1]
Ferne's first marriage, to Wesley John Osborne, was on 9 October 1937 in Brisbane.[2]

The bride, who Is being given away by her father, is the second daughter of Mr. L. F. Gillespie, Casino, New South Wales. The bridegroom is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Osborne, Grafton, New South Wales............
When Mr. and Mrs. Osborne leave- for Sydney on their way to New Zealand, where they will make their home, the bride will be frocked in blue cloque relieved with navy, and allied with a navy hat and accessories.[3]
Its not known if her husband Wesley passed away, or they divorced, but Ferne met her future second husband, Walter Sylvester, in New Zealand, eventually marrying on 23 March 1948 in Saint Johnsbury, Vermont.[4]
Ferne passed away on 26 November 1982 at Grand Isle, Vermont.[5] She is buried in the Grand Isle Cemetery, her grave marked with a monument.[6]
