Biography

Alexander was born in 1762. He was the son of the Very Rev James Gillespie DD FRSE (1722–1791) who was a Scottish minister and theologian (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Gillespie_(minister)) and his wife Isabell Dick.

In 1789 he married Sarah Rachel Priestley in Bradford.

They reportedly had four children, including
