James was born in Strathaven, Scotland in 1900, the son of F. William Gillespie and Anne Richie. He immigrated to the United States with his parents and siblings in 1920. In 1930, he lived with his family in Waterford, Michigan. He was employed as a plumber.[1]
Jimmy married Lena Dow Miller in Detroit in July 1933.[2] In 1935, they lived at 1741 Henny? Park Ave, Detroit. In 1936, he filed his declaration of intent to become a United States citizen in Detroit.[3]In 1940, he lived at 1741 Henny? Park Ave, Detroit with his wife and step-daughter Barbara. He and Lena were employed as apartment house caretakers, each working 80 hours/week. In 1950, he and Lena lived in an apartment on Epworth St in Detroit. He was unemployed.[4]
James died Aug, 1961. He was buried Aug 26, 1961 at Ottawa Park Cemetery, Clarkston, Michigan.[5]
