John was born in 1877. He is the son of Orin Gillet and Emma Gentner.
In 1880, the Gillett family lived on Franklin Avenue, Toledo, Ohio. The household included Orrin Gillett, 30, born in Ohio (parents b. Ohio), a Root Beer manufacturer; his wife Emma, 23, b. NY (parents b. Baden, Germany); their children, both b. Ohio, John, 2; and Edward, four months (b. Feb. 1880).[1]
In 1900, the Gillett family lived at 214 Mettler Street, Toledo, Ohio. They owned the house without a mortgage. All members of the household were born in Ohio, except as noted. All could read and write, except the youngest child. The household included Orrin Gillett, 48, born April 1852 (error), whose parents were born in Ohio, a laborer; his wife of 24 years, Emma, 45, born in July 1855 (error), in New Jersey (parents b. Germany), who had had eight children, all of whom were living; their children, John, 23, b. 1 Aug. 1877, a cigar maker; Eddy, 20, b. 9 Feb.1880, a moulder; Clara, 18, b. 26 Nov. 1882, a waitress; May, 16, b. 28 Jan. 1884, waitress; Ellen, 13, b. 14 March 1887, in school; Lottie, 10, b. 13 Oct. 1890, in school; Laura, 7, b. 9 July 1893, in school; and Leon, b. March 1897.[2]
John K. Gillett, born 1 August 1877 Lucas, Ohio, the son of Orrin and Emma Gillett, was a cigar maker. He died, aged 30, on 28 October 1907 in Toledo, Ohio, and is buried with his parents and other family at Forest Cemetery, Toledo, Ohio.[3]
