There is an 1845 Deed to Truman Gillett, recorded in1855. The grantee could have been either the subject of this profile or his son, but of whom were alive in 1845 but deceased in 1855. Further research on deed may reveal the proper grantee.
Ministry: In 1809, Truman began preaching as a Methodist Episcopal minister in New York. [13][14] In early 1813, he formed the Sodus Circuit of the Methodist Episcopal Church which lasted until 1817 and served Wayne, Seneca, Cayuga and Onodoga.[15] He then left the ME church and joined the Free Baptists.[16] On October 15, 1818, Truman was ordained as a Pastor in the Free Will Baptist Church. He ministered in Fairfield, Poland, and Oswego County, NY, and also in Canada.[13][17][18][19] Among the congregations to whom Truman ministered was the first church in Camden, New York.[20] and the Methodist Episcopal Church of Wolcott, New York.[21]
Death: Truman died in Camden, New York at the age of 70 of consumption.[22][23][24] He was married at the time of his death on February 8, 1850.[22]
Burial: Truman is buried at the Seventh Township Cemetery, Camden, Oneida County, New York, USA.[1] His marker is inscribed: "Gillett, Rev. Truman, a. Feb. 8, 1850 ae. 70 yrs. 6 mos. 16 days".[25]
