In 1804 she married her cousin, Josiah Shelton Ellis in Knox County, TN. Her name is recorded as Barthena in the marriage record for her marriage.[2]
To this marriage were born three children: Sarah Harding Ellis, Mary Gililam Ellis and Thomas Oliver Ellis. Bethena died around 1810 and it is reported that his children were raised by his brother, William Gilliam Ellis.[3]
