Biography
John Gillies Sr was the father Norman John Gillies, who was the second to last survivor of St Kilda. John Gillies Sr's wife Mary died in Glasgow when she fell ill with pneumonia. Her having to leave the Island for medical care was a major reason the decision to leave the Island was made by the population there.
