Biography
Have found no marriage or birth records in Scotland or Ireland for James and his wife, Elizabeth Patterson. (As of early 2018.) Daughter Sarah Gillies was married to Robert Galbraith in Donegal County, Ireland, and all of her children were born there.
Sarah's daughter Eleanor's middle name was legally spelled "Gillis" in all of the censuses. Burial records spelled James' name as "Gillies".

January 1897 Oakwood Cemetery, Troy, Rensselaer County, New York, USA. Burial record document ordered from cemetery office in 2016. States daughter Sarah "Sally" Gillies Galbraith, d. January 5th, 1897 and was 82y 1m 15d old at time of death. Names the place of birth for Sarah as Scotland, and her parents on burial record are named James Gillies and Elizabeth Patterson.
