Stricken suddenly with a heart attack, Mrs. Mary A. Roach, 78, died at her home, 122 East Tenth street, about 1:30 o'clock Thursday morning. (Other details of her death omitted here.
Mrs. Roach, the former Miss Mary Ann Gillingham, was born at Gillingham, Wis., on June 15, 1853. Her early girlhood was spent there and at that place on June 25, 1871, she was united in marriage with Matthew H. Roach. In the spring of 1885, Mr. and Mrs. Roach moved to Salem, Kas., where they resided until February, 1904, when they came to Grand Island. Shortly after moving to this city, they located on a farm one and one-half miles north of this city, on the St. Paul road, and operated a small dairy and did truck gardening until about eight years ago when they retired and moved to their present residence.
Surviving are her husband, three sons, Charles, Wichita, Kas.; Vivian and Gilbert of Grand Island; two daughters, Mrs. Harry Layton and Mrs. George Bischeld, both of Redlands, Cal, as also six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Four children preceded her in death when very young. The two daughters in California will be unable to attend the funeral which will take place Saturday afternoon at two o'clock at the Trinity Methodist church, Rev. Wm. Kilburn officiating.
