Mary Gillions was a Latter Day Saint pioneer.

Biography

Mary was born in 1839. She was the daughter of William Gillions and Elizabeth Sextan. She passed away in 1854.

The Gillions family (William and his four children, John, Elizabeth, Sarah, and Mary) arrived in New Orleans on 2 May 1854 via the ship John M. Wood. William died in St. Louis prior to departure (noted in the PEF). Only John and Elizabeth survived to reach the Valley.

Though John and Elizabeth are not explicitly documented with the Empey company. Mary and Sarah are and it is very likely the four siblings were traveling together.

Mary's death is noted in the Sinclair journal as well as the PEF records:

Wed 11 fair (very warm) [.] as the feed was good and teams weak we stoped here all day. Cleaned out all the waggons & sundries <as> the two wagons behind came up. Sister Mary Gillings [sic] aged 14 years died and was buried today She was from England.[1]
