Biography

Nehemiah was born in 1727. He was the son of Nehemiah Gilman and Elizabeth Smith.

He married Elizabeth Mead (1727–1824). They had the following children:

Elizabeth "Betsey" (1752-1832)

Simeon (1753-)

Bradbury (1755-1842)

Mary (1757-)


Nehemiah Gilman was killed by the Indians at the time of the massacre at Fort William Henry, Lake George, August 10, 1757.

Fort William Henry, located at the southern end of Lake George, on the frontier between the British Province of New York and the French Province of Canada, was garrisoned by a force of British regulars and provincial militia led by Lieutenant Colonel George Monro.
