Biography
Caroline Gilmer was married 1st to James H. Butler, her husband on the 1860 census, is buried next to her in Shiloh Cemetery, Lamr Co, AL. His marker reads: John H. Butler-Alabama-Pvt Co K 16 Regt Ala Inf-CSA-Jan 19, 1862. This Caroline then married Martin Taylor , as found in later census records. Her bith date is Nov. 27, 1829 on the grave marker, but this does not match data in census records for Caroline Gilmer Butler Taylor. The data on her birth may later have mistakenly come from Wm Burton Taylor's Caroline, as James and Caroline's are matching markers and are not contemporary with their deaths. This Caroline is the sister of John Thompson Gilmer and daughter of Archibola Gilmer b 1799. Talked to wife of (John) Gray Gilmer, grand-nephew of Caroline, on June 23, 1995. (John Gray Gilmer son of George Gilmer son of John Thompson Gilmer.) (Davi Eugene Taylor, Hartford CT, 12-1998 family member).
