Biography
From Genealogical and Personal History of Western Pennsylvania:
John Gilmore was born in Ireland, and emigrated to the United States in 1833, accompanied by his wife and only child. His wife died at sea, and Mr. Gilmore with his son settled in Penn township, Allegheny county, Pennsylvania, where he died in 1840. The name of his wife before marriage was Ann McCune.
From History of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania:
John and Ann (McCune) Gilmore, he started for America. The mother died on the sea, and the father and son settled and rented land in Wilkins township, where the father died in 1840.
