Battle of Brandwine
Gideon's house was used as Generals Washington and LaFayette's headquarters the day before the battle of Brandywine, The day of the battle, LaFayette was wounded and carried to Gideon's house[2]. After the battle, British troops slept on his farm and plundered it. After this misfortuine, Gideon ran a tavern in his home to help support his family[3].
In 1825, LaFayette toured the old battlefield and pointed out the place where he had been wounded. While there, he visited Gideon who was in the last days of his life[4].
