The son of James Magos Gilson' and his second wife, Sarah A., Ayila was born in Ohio in 1838. His father continued migrating and settled in Shiawassee County, Michigan.[1][2] He registered for the draft on July 1, 1863, residing in Bennington Township and working as a mechanic.[3]
It's not known how or where he died but he is buried at Alton Cemetery in Bennington Township.[4]
Research Notes
He is listed in the 1850 census as "Aquilla" and in the 1860 census as "Angeline"; in his father's household each time. His grave marker spells his last name "Gillson."
